Gregg Wassmansdorf Competitive Alternatives is the most robust and user-friendly model that I have found for conducting location comparisons at a country and city level. (Full disclosure: my company contributes the global real estate data to the model.) The disadvantage of any model is that it cannot effectively capture the nuances of each company's project or investment in all possible locations. I recommend that companies starting a business site selection project begin by forming a broad, multi-function team of internal and external experts who can evaluate all aspects of location strategy. Only a diverse team can effectively capture all needs and evaluate all data points relating to the project's supply chain, financial parameters, personnel, transportation, utilities, real estate, and government incentives.
